Datel's LSN D12 series of nonisolated dc/dc converters provide 1V to 5V output at 10A from an isolated, nominal 12V input. The converters directly address the low-cost, distributed-power challenge of efficiently distributing 12V power to numerous, nonisolated buck regulators required in today's multivoltage systems - that is, the "last mile" in point-of-load applications.
The converters, in single-in-line packages that can be mounted either vertically or horizontally, feature a line regulation of 10.1 percent (maximum), load regulation of 10.25 percent, low output noise (30mVpp to 50mVpp) and quick step response (1005s).
The company touts high efficiency stemming from synchronous-rectifier operation to 96 percent for the 5V model-along with stable no load operation and full power to 500C without supplemental airflow. With minimal airflow (100lfm), all models deliver full power to at least 670C.

In most cases, the converters require no external I/O filtering to achieve specified noise levels or FCC specs for complying with conducted or radiated emissions, Datel announced. On-board I/O capacitors are fully rated to handle the input ripple current and reduce output noise to specified levels.
The LSN feature set includes output overcurrent detection, continuous short circuit protection, a 110 percent output-voltage trim function, a remote on/off control pin, and an output sense pin.
The LSN D12 series is priced at $11.90 each for 10,000 pieces. Free samples and evaluation kits are available immediately for qualified OEMs, as are preproduction quantities up to 25 pieces.
